Championing Educational Excellence

Advocating for Quality Education and Ethical Standards in Independent Higher Education Institutions.

Advancing Independent Education, Shaping Tomorrow’s Leaders

Supporting independent institutions, advancing higher education. We represent private colleges and universities, advocating for quality education, compliance, and ethical standards. Join us in fostering excellence.

Our Journey from PDGIA to IDGI-BC

Originally founded in 2013 as the Private Degree Granting Institutions Association, we formed a Society in 2024 and changed our name to the Independent Degree Granting Institutions of BC (IDGI-BC). Nine independent degree-granting partner organizations in the province of British Columbia (BC) work together to increase their advocacy with the Ministries in BC and share resources to elevate the excellence within higher education.

The association provides a forum for members to meet together discuss issues of common interest. The association also serves as a forum to meet with officials from provincial and federal bodies such as the Ministry of Advanced Education Skills and Training, the BC Council on Admissions and Training and the BC Council on International Education to provide input and feedback concerning the sector.

Mission Statement

The Independent Degree Granting Institutions of BC (IDGI-BC) represents the interests of for-profit and not-for-profit private post-secondary degree-granting colleges, universities, and institutes. The Association raises public awareness and promotes recognition of the contribution of private institutions to post-secondary education and the vital role they play in our economy. Members adhere to a code of ethics and are committed to providing education of the highest quality and ensuring compliance with all government regulations.

Advocacy

We are unwavering advocates for the cause of independent institutions, consistently engaging with various government bodies and the Degree Quality Assessment Board (DQAB). Our efforts are dedicated to ensuring these institutions receive the necessary support and recognition they rightfully deserve.

Community

Collaborating in higher education fosters innovation, enhances resource sharing, and drives academic excellence. By uniting diverse expertise and perspectives, we create a dynamic environment that encourages groundbreaking research, enriched learning experiences, and holistic student development. Together, we build stronger institutions and empower future leaders.

Resource Sharing

Sharing resources, rather than reinventing the wheel, allows us to leverage the collective wisdom and experiences of the group. This collaborative approach fosters innovation, saves time, and maximizes efficiency, enabling everyone to achieve more together.
